“I believe that higher education institutions have a responsibility to foster students’ civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions, as well as their global consciousness. I anticipate contributing to this civic mission through the development of rigorous and relevant course content, emphasis on discussion and debate, and the shared cultivation of a community that challenges students to consider diverse perspectives with mutual respect and civility. My hope is that students leave my classes feeling prepared and excited to pursue their chosen field, while also recognizing their civic potential and responsibility to others, near and far.”
